About You: Shibui Sai has had a passion for art from a young age, having always found art much easier to understand and work with than people. Once she took up the name of "Sai" all but abandoning the name Shibui, her passions grew evermore intense. Being socially awkward and distant from others since the very beginning as well as being an orphan with no real family to call her own, she had no trouble disconnecting herself from the world in favor of dedicating herself to refining her art and ninja skills.
What she draws is a perfect outlet for her negativity, making her creations a near perfect reflection of how she's feeling inside despite the warm, kind, and timid facade she puts on during social interactions. Deep down she feels a strong resentment and jealousy towards most others, particularly those in the opposite of a situation to her own. As for those she can relate to empathize with, she does so very strongly. Going out of her way to care and provide for the latter in whatever way she can, from providing shelter and food to drawing them something to lift their spirits.
Sai is not all that good at describing her creative process to others, often using vague though still very accurate analogies and metaphors to try and explain how she draws certain things so well, particularly animals. Alligators? Logs filled with teeth. Anteaters? Bears with tiny heads and really long tongues. Despite the silly descriptions though, they work much better than one would expect before seeing her work. It makes things a little more fun and Sai is always amused by the confused reactions this causes.
Writing Sample: "Takako, please.." Sai groaned, covering her face with her palm and sighing. The small octopus had decided to occupy a bucket Sai was intending on using for something else, but then not only had it occupied the bucket, it had filled it up with ink. It would have been easy enough to clean out, if it weren't such a pain to have to both remove Takako from the bucket and then take that bucket somewhere to clean it out proper. If she had been intending to paint then this wouldn't have been a problem, but she had other responsibilities she needed to attend to before she could goof off. Her companion glanced up at her from inside the bucket with that same almost cat-like expression it always had, though by now Sai could interpret most of Takako's emotions. Still she found it weird that an octopus of all things would wear make-up. How did they even get it on and keep it on?
Sai wordlessly folded her arms and furrowed her brow at Takako. Not much needed to be said between them, as both their expressions summed up what would've been said. Sai wanted the bucket, and Takako wanted to play. So they were at an obvious impasse and either Sai was going to have to compromise somehow or she was just gonna have to find a different bucket. "Truly, must you make things so difficult?" The artist let out an exasperated sigh, casting her glance downwards towards the floor, in thought for a brief moment. Seeming to have come to a decision, Sai crouched down and lifted the bucket up into her arms. Octopus, ink, and all. "You wanna play? We'll play." The girl grinned something that seemed devilish in nature. Takako's expression wouldn't change, but to Sai it was obvious that got their attention. Still the small octopus wouldn't waver in its stubbornness, even as Sai brought them all the way outside and then down to the nearby river to simply toss the whole bucket into the water.
When they originally formed a contract, they hadn't expected to earn a friend like Takako, or that their dynamic would work out to be like this. Something closer to a pet and its owner as opposed to what she had been expecting, a dynamic more like a hound and its master. This octopus was definitely more like trouble-making little cat than it was a hound, that much was for certain.
