Shouri was awake before his alarm was set to go off. There was a chill to the air this particular morning which made it hard for the boy to get out of bed. So instead, the Uchiha continued to lie under the warm embrace of the blanket for just a bit longer. As the minutes passed he began to fidget. What was comfortable moments ago now made him restless. He kicked the covers off of his bed still with time to spare before his alarm clock would ring. He reached down to turn it off as he slid through the room and out the door.
"Goodmorning, Father. I'm heading out for my mission." Shouri maintained the minimum level of respect in order not to anger his father. That included greeting him when he saw him, letting his father know when he was leaving and where he would be, and never responding in any way that could be perceived as 'talking back'. These were all so ingrained into Shouri's daily life that he barely noticed them anymore. He did notice, however, when his father failed to respond. It wasn't that he hadn't heard Shouri, or that he wasn't able to respond at the moment. He simply didn't feel the need to interact with his son. Now that Shouri had shown him the proper respect, all he would give in return is his silent permission for Shouri to leave. Honestly, Shouri was glad for it. He departed from his home in the Uchiha Clan district his his head hanging, glad to be rid of his father for the day yet still feeling the sting of his rejection. It was his father after all.
The streets of Konohagakure were rather empty this morning. It was usual to see street vendors and shop keepers preparing for the day of sales at this time in the morning. Instead, Shouri saw closed signs hanging from windows and empty street carts waiting for their owners to return to them. The young boy's Senju side longed for the familiar sound of villagers bustling, instead of the eerie silence that now filled the air. Shouri passed from the Uchiha Clan district into a more common area inside of the village yet still no bystanders. As he got closer to the location of his mission, Shouri began to spot a few waking citizens. One was just turning on the lights in the house as he passed, another opened up shop and invited Shouri inside. "No thanks, Gramps!" the boy shouted with a smile and a wave as he passed by. "I have a mission today!"
The part of the village where the mission was set to take place was strictly a residential area. It was a well organized and neatly kept neighborhood, something the Genin noted for later when he was to get paid. If they had enough money to live here they had enough money to pay well. Shouri had the house number memorized since the time he was given the mission.
"243...243..." he repeated aloud until he stumbled upon it. Before he noticed the house number, he noticed a young man standing outside near the street. It looked like the man was waiting for something. Quite impatiently as well. Shouri began to pick up his pace as a target was acquired. When he got closer his suspicions were confirmed, this was the correct house and the man outside was likely the one he was meant to report to. The man began to frantically wave down Shouri as he came close enough for his headband to be visible. It must be important, Shouri thought as he began to race toward the man who was likely somewhere in his 20's. "Shouri Uchiha, Genin of Konohagakure, reporting for duty." he exclaimed confidently. The boy's mind began to race, wondering what kind of challenge the young man had hired him to take on. Was he defending the man's shop against extortion? Tracking down lost valuables stolen by bandits? Defending his garden against wild animals? It was none of these things. The mission was simple. Much too simple.
"Great, yeah that's great kid. Okay, so what I need you to do is head inside to meet my wife. She will introduce you to our daughter. All I need from you is to watch her until we get back. Our babysitter fell through last minute and this was all I could think of. Who better to trust the protection of my child to than the shinobi of the Leaf, right? Okay, good luck. Oh, and send Fujiko out here would you? We're already late."
Shouri let out a sigh, though it was nothing compared to the internal temper tantrum he was currently throwing. This is the last time he would ever tell the mission clerk "Surprise me". Babysitting? Why is it even possible to request a full fledged ninja to watch your snot nosed kids?! He continued raging on the inside, while he calmly handled the situation outwardly. He simply nodded as he understood the instructions before heading inside. He made it through the doorway to see a short red haired woman in a fierce lock down with a child who looks strikingly like her. "Your husband, he never introduced himself, asked me to send you out to him Fujiko."
She looked at him with surprise which quickly turned to excitement. "You can handle her?" She asked, though it didn't seem she was interested in the answer. A moment later she was gone and the fierce glare that had been shared between the two was now solely focused on Shouri. "Hi there," The Senju spoke in a higher voice than usual and with an exaggerated smile. He wasn't exactly sure what children liked to do, although he was one he was also a shinobi. Being a shinobi drained most of the child out of you at a young age, especially with a father like Raizo. The glare immediately turned to a look of wild excitement. It was similar to the one her mother exhibited just before leaving. Then, without a word, the small redheaded child turned and ran.
She was faster than Shouri could have anticipated. She knew the layout of the house too well for her age giving her an even stronger advantage. By the time Shouri gathered himself and followed her she was already around 2 corners. When the Uchiha came around the second bend he seen something that made his heart drop. A wide open back door. Adrenaline pumped as the boy realized he may have failed his first mission. It was barely even a real mission, you can't fail a fake mission he tried to rationalize with himself. Regardless of what he told himself, he knew he had to find this child. The Genin scaled the house to get a better view from the roof. He surveyed the streets and alleyways until he seen a moving orange-red ball of curls. Shouri bolted after it like the wind, using every ounce of speed he had in his body to make it to her before any harm could come. When he reached her he scooped her into his arms at full speed and jumped up back toward the rooftops. Chakra helped him climb the surfaces until he had carried the small savage all the way from where he rescued her to her home.
Once the child was returned tot he house safely Shouri went about securing all exits. He made sure every window and door was locked and he didn't let the unusually fast little one out of his sight for the rest of the night. By the time her parents walked through the door, Shouri was in the same type of stare down with her that her mother had been. The only difference being both of them were well on their way to being asleep. This gave Fujiko and her husband a good laugh before then sent Shouri home with their thanks.
