Today was supposed to be another chill day. Everything was auspicious for such a day. The weather was perfect: not too hot, not too cold, with a nice breeze. A clear blue sky with some scattered clouds. Ren had a full belly and was laying atop a tree branch near one of the training areas of the Hidden Leaf Village, but he was not sleeping; or resting.
There was something in the back of his mind keeping him a bit restless on that day. The words of Inokai were echoed in his ears: he needed to train more and take his shinobi life a tad bit more seriously. And although that would be quite the hassle, he knew all too well that the young Yamanaka was right on that. Of course, he didn’t agree that a shinobi needs to be serious at all times and forfeit everything else in their lives in order to fulfill their duty. But he knew he was doing just the bare minimum and now he was Genin and he was taking in some – although quite casual – missions.
To realize that was like getting punched in the jaw and that made him grimace. But Ren was not one to linger on bad or negative thoughts for too long. The boy took a very deep breath and leaped from the tree branch, landing on the grassy field, right in front three trunks tucked into the ground. With a serious and determined look on his eyes, the boy grabbed three shurikens from the pouch on his back and with a quick movement, he threw them at the trunks.
One of them hit the middle one, the second grazed beside it, and the third completely missed the target. Ren sighed deeply. He knew he performed way better with his Byakugan activated, but he wasn’t really expecting to perform so poorly right now and that was quite the let down.
Little did he know, however, that he was not alone on those grounds.

The fall breeze flying in off the valley that the village hidden in the leaves rest, Konohagakure. For miles and miles around the village is dense foliage, so with a clear blue sky with the scattered clouds floating by slowly and apparently lazy like. The breeze was a cooling sensation to the flesh anyone within the valley. The Uchiha's hair blew in the wind as his skin prickled up from the cooling sensation to his flesh. The sideburns pulled into ponytails with white cloth swayed with the breeze as well, as his long ponytail floating down to the middle of his back hiding some of the Uchiha clan symbol. The black raised collar shirt fit snug to his slender slightly chiseled features of a thirteen year old could possibility have. His hands rested in the pockets of his black shorts as he stood in a nearby tree branch bout four meters from him, and ten meters above him. The Uchiha stood watching the Hyuga laying on the branch, completely unguarded. His greyish black eyes narrowed at the perceived dropping of his guard. The Uchiha watched on as he seen him leap from the branch down to the green grass below to little to no effort. The Uchiha himself returned his eyes to normal and made an "Hmph" noise. "I could do that no problem." The Uchiha observed him looking at three trunks tucked into the ground. The movements of the Hyuga was easy to as he observed one of his classmates revealing three shurikens, releasing them with a quick flick motion toward the three trunks in front of him. Shinji watched in silence as One of them hit the middle one, the second grazed beside it, and the third completely missed the target. The Uchiha snickered alittle bit at the mishap his displayed. He breathes in himself as he turns on his pivot, hopping off that branch and free falling forward using his momentum he flips forward to land onto a lower branch closer to the bottom. The Uchiha stood for a moment on the branch he landed on. He decided he was gonna do something to be noticed from this far up. He would smile as he would yell down to the boy below."My blind Grandma Tio Uchiha could hit all of those targets Ren!"He would shoot a cheeky smirk at the Hyuga, obviously teasing him about his lack of hitting the targets. He would start to hop off that branch, being it's a little closer and land gracefully into the grass two meters behind Ren Hyuga. He would straighten himself up as he slowly started to walk toward him, no malice in his demeanor, but he started to speak as he walked toward Ren, the tone in his voice carrying a tinge of truth and nothing condescending upon his words or tone was implied. He was prideful of his bloodline and he felt anyone of the four noble clans should take the same pride in their clan."You know, Ren what would your father or mother say to you right now if they saw that? Moreso, I was able to sneak up on you without you noticing. I say that, to say we need to train our bodies to be more aware. I shouldn't be able to sneak up on you like that. Besides, what can I say. We are apart of the four noble clans, you don't wanna lose to us Uchiha do you?"
Shinji would stop beside him on his right patting him on the shoulder as he smiled at Ren, closing his eyes before opening them again. The hand rested for a moment on his shoulder before Shinji ultimately lifts if off his shoulder and starts to walk forward again of Ren, remaining silent as he walked closer to five meters in front of Ren before stopping, turning on his right pivot and starting to face the Hyuga. His hands resting at his sides as he starts to speak. "What you say, about us sparring?"

He was way too relax while inside the village, that was true. Normally, whenever on a mission or something, the Hyuga boy was hard to sneak up on, but this time his guard was totally down and hence the Uchiha boy managed to observe his embarrassing moment. Luckily, the Hyuga boy didn't care too much about those things, and he wasn't bothered by it. The comment actually made him chuckle as he rested his hands on his hips and cracked a smirk in the corner of his mouth, staring at the black haired boy. "Well, then Tio Ba-chan must be an incredible shinobi!" he said with a kind, yet mildly teasing tone.
As he already knew all too well, Shinji was proud of his lineage and the fact that they were a part of the Hidden Leaf's nobility. Ren thought that concept was a bit silly, as he felt like all shinobi were important. Don't get the wrong message, he was proud to be a Hyuga and would fight to defend his family honour to the death, but he didn't feel that having a noble line or a strong bloodline limit made him better than the others who made a name for themselves through effort alone. If anything, he thought that those guys were even more admirable, as they didn't have such a great head start as Uchihas, Hyugas and Senju, or a lineage of nobility to rely on, as the Akimichi and Aburame had.
Ren looked a bit thoughtful at Shinji's words, but then he shrugged. "Dad would definitely say I need to try harder and shake his head. Mom was way more lovely, but even her would be a bit disappointed I assume, especially because she was very proud of her Byakugan back when she was still kicking around." the way he dealt with his mother's death was indeed one of a kind, as he didn't seem bothered by it at all. "But the fact you managed to sneak on me while I was distract doesn't make me lose to the Uchiha hehehe!" he said as his gentle smirk became a bit more mischievous.
And there it came, just like he was already expecting: an invitation to spar. Ren felt oddly fired up. Maybe that was still Inokai's effect on him, but he felt like he needed to prove himself; not to Shinji, but for his own sake. "Well... Who would say that this is exactly what I was hoping for today? Hehehe!" he added as he took two steps backwards, increasing the distance between them to six metres.
With a single hand seal, the modified version of the tiger seal, used by the Hyuga clan, the veins around his lilac eyes popped out and his irises became slightly visible. "Byakugan!" he shouted as he activated his powerful doujutsu, showing - without words - that at least in that aspect, he was superior to Shinji. Swiftly, he got into the famous stance of his clan, the Gentle Fist, showing he was ready to rumble.
"Ready when you are, Shinji-kun!" he said with a way more serious expression now. Ren was definitely taking this sparring session seriously.

The Uchiha observed him start chuckling, as the stone cold expression of the Uchiha remained even when the Hyuga smirked, them both locking eyes as he could see the expressionless Uchiha who then cracked a smile but his eyes remained the same. He would listen to the boy speak about his grandmother. "Well, then Tio Ba-chan must be an incredible shinobi!" It would be the Uchihas turn to start chuckling. The Uchiha would laugh lightly for only a couple of seconds before he stops. His facial expression returning back to it's cold expressionless features. Shinji wasn't really heartless, he was just using any interaction he encountered in training areas as simulation for having to appear calm, expressionless and in control of yourself during a mission even if you aren't. The intense training he has figured out at a young age is it's learned through massive practice.
"I wouldn't know if she was an incredible shinobi. I made that up to try to motivate you to be better."
As the shrugging of the incoming question about Ren's mother and father witnessing such mediocre skill that was unbecoming of the shinobi, again Shinji did not show any expression despite his disappointment in the way it appeared as if he was shrugging it off as if it's not a worry. The Hyuga speaking, "Dad would definitely say I need to try harder and shake his head. The Uchiha himself knew the boy's mother was no longer living and it was a sad thing. But, Shinji brought her up for a reason. He felt like a good reason. The Hyuga showed no discomfort about the subject which made Shinji nod toward him in understanding. "But the fact you managed to sneak on me while I was distract doesn't make me lose to the Uchiha hehehe!" Ren flashed an mischievous grin as the Uchiha made his offer of sparring. "Well... Who would say that this is exactly what I was hoping for today? Hehehe!"
As the Uchiha watched the Hyuga took two steps backwards, his eyes never leaving the Hyuga's movements. The cold expression remained upon the face of the Uchiha as Ren made an modified hand seal of the Tiger as the Hyuga's eyes started to change, the bugling of the veins around the lilac eyes popped out as the irises became slightly visible. "Byakugan!" The Uchiha stood steadfast as he started to slide in his stance. I don't have the Sharingan to match his ocular abilities. I do know that keeping my distance is key here. The Uchiha said nothing as his hands quickly raised forming an Boar hand sign holding it in place for a couple seconds before lowering his right hand to the side, slightly open as sparks of Raiton started to dance among his fingertips. The sound of electricity dancing among his palm as it blasted into a ball of lightning into his palm, that started to radiate from the palm and around his entire hand. Shinji saids nothing as he launched the hand forward as a bolt of lightning travels in front of him, the lightning shaping into an hound of lightning with red eyes that started running toward Ren, growling as it finished growing into a full grown hound dog. The Uchiha has a cord of electricity connected to the beast to that right palm. The face of the Uchiha remained expressionless, he was thinking ahead as the hound moved to his right rather quickly, looking to come from the right of the Hyuuga, away from the palm and trying to go directly into the Hyuga's ribs.

So the battle had started, and it started quite intensely.
With the visual prowess of his Byakugan, Ren could already see the chakra molding inside of Shinji which meant he was preparing a jutsu. With only one single hand seal, his chakra began to concentrate. ”So he is starting with a jutsu already… I don’t know what he might use, but I better close in fast! I will use my taijutsu expertise as my advantage in this fight! I want it close and personal!” the Hyuga boy thought to himself as he began to run towards Shinji almost at the same time as his chakra concentrated on his right hand with sparkles of lightning. ”Lightning release?! Good to know! This is one element I can’t directly engage with my Gentle Fist…” he took the mental note as he continued his movement.
Ren’s expertise in Taijutsu, together with his skill with the Hyuga style made him way swifter in battle when using this particular skill. He was faster and more precise in his movements and, at a Genin level, it was definitely clear he moved with quite a lot of grace, as his mind as concentrating on those two traits. As Shinji launched his hand forward, a hound of lightning with crimson eyes manifested itself, made of pure lightning chakra. Ren didn’t fail to notice the string of lightning chakra connecting the hound to Shinji’s hand, which made him reach the conclusion the Uchiha was able to control its movements. ”Quite the handy jutsu, I’ve gotta admit!” he thought to himself as he cracked a smirk in the corner of his mouth. ”But it also took quite its tools on his stamina… This gives me an advantage!” he noted and that increase his confidence a tad bit.
As the hound came chasing him from the right, Ren started running to the left, keeping his distance from the creature and aiming to flank Shinji on his right side. The speed of the hound and the Hyuga boy were evenly matched, but since he had the insight from the Byakugan, that allowed him to prepare himself and avoid immediate contact with the creature. If his thoughts were correct, he could possibly cancel this jutsu by attacking its source: Shinji’s right hand.
Ren would aim to hit Shinji’s right hand in an attempt to disrupt the chakra flowing into the jutsu and essentially dissipate the Lightning Hound, while at the same time keeping himself in close quarters. He was taking this sparring session quite seriously.

The Hyuga is not able to do much other than gain 359 degree vision for up to 50 meters (including physical obstructions), scan the enemy's chakra network (but not the Tenketsu yet), and track higher speeds. The Byakugan user gains a tier to their TRACKING attribute thanks to their enhanced vision. They are nearly impossible to sneak attack thanks to this dojutsu. They also can see chakra flow, detecting how much STAMINA a person has, how much stamina they have left, and also where to strike the chakra network with the basic Gentle Fist Jutsu. Gentle Fist: Rank: E Rank Classification: Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Non-Elemental, Hyuuga Exclusive Type: Melee Range: Arm-Length Hand-Seals: N/A Description: The Gentle Fist (柔拳, Jūken) is a form of hand-to-hand combat used by members of the Hyūga clan. It inflicts internal damage through attacking the body's Chakra Pathway System, subsequently injuring organs which are closely intertwined with the area of the network which has been struck. To do this, the user surgically injects a certain amount of their own chakra into the opponent's chakra pathway system, causing damage to surrounding organs due to their proximity to the chakra circulatory system. Even the slightest tap can cause severe internal damage, hence the name "gentle" fist. By employing the use of the Byakugan they can target the tenketsu, thus enhancing the havoc and control a Gentle Fist practitioner can impose upon an opponent's chakra network. These 361 nodes are key gate-keeping interceptions in the chakra circulatory network, thus forcibly opening or sealing them in whatever manner the Gentle Fist user sees fit, is a powerful tactical option to have. The affected person's chakra flow can either be increased or disrupted completely, preventing them from using techniques as seen in Neji's fight with Hinata during the Chūnin Exams, rendering her own Gentle Fist maneuvers ineffective. Neji Hyūga noted that any chakra-based substance can be destroyed by this technique. As seen in his fight with Kidōmaru, it is done by leaking chakra from the chakra openings in one's hands and moulding it into a needle-like shape to slice through the chakra. In contrast, Kidōmaru managed to devise a method that prevented the chakra from being injected into the body, thus negating the main impact of the Gentle Fist through physical contact. Because Gentle Fist is mostly taijutsu, some believed users can only emit chakra from their hands due to the hands being the most mobile limbs on the body. However, users can emit chakra from any tenketsu, making binding them with chakra-based substance impossible. Because the chakra pathway system is invisible to the naked eye, the Byakugan is required for most techniques of this style. Since the Byakugan is unique to the Hyūga clan, it has become their signature style of combat. The ability to inflict severe internal trauma with minimal external force, combined with chakra network manipulation, makes the Gentle Fist the most reputable and fearsome taijutsu style known in all of Konohagakure. This Jutsu is a very unique Taijutsu style, unlike anything else that does and will exist. Hyuuga Taijutsu is strikes that bypass the opponent's body and inject their chakra directly into their opponent to target the chakra network and the organs. MECHANICALLY this means that the Taijutsu strikes deal damage based off of Coordiation instead of Strength like EVERY OTHER Taijutsu does. This jutsu also targets a person's stamina, rather than their Might. These Taijutsu strikes can also strike chakra-based substances, as the Hyuuga create little scalpels in their fingertips that can sever the connection to chakra in these substances (like with Kidomaru). At Taijutsu Adept - the Gentle Fist can boost Coordination or Movement by a tier. At Taijutsu Expert - the Gentle Fist can boost Coordination or Movement or Intuition by a tier. Drawbacks: Although the base technique can be learned or copied by others, the sub-techs are restricted exclusively to the Byakugan, because only the Hyuuga Clan possesses the skill in chakra manipulation required. Also using the Base Technique requires Medical and Taijutsu Expert knowledge on top of a Ninjutsu Minor (as they must understand the body enough to properly target the necessary targets without the Byakugan. For Hyuuga requires a single skill point in Ninjutsu and Taijutsu. Can't use this Taijutsu against Fire/Lightning/Wind Ninjutsu because it's pure energy based. Cannot damage solid constructs not made of chakra (like normal Steel blades, puppets, rocks, etc.). |

As the Uchiha observed the Hyuga smirk, the Uchiha's expression remained blank as he watched the hound blast pass the Hyuga, as the boy charged toward Shinji. His hand remaining upward with the lightning dancing within his hands, he observed him moving to the left of Shinji as he slid his feet apart, the right foot a couple inches in front of the left foot, and spread a good distance apart, as if the Uchiha was not moving. The hound kept running, sliding on his feet. The weakness of the Hyuga exposing itself unbeknownst to the Uchiha himself. He wasn't sure what Ren was gonna do right away, but as Ren was charging forth, Shinji was preparing for the fist that came toward him, Shinji allowed the fist to connect with his hand, as Shinji allowed the hit to connect, tightening his grip down onto the fist and squeezing with his might. Shinji allowed Ren's forward momentum to work with his quick yank forward of his right hand pulling the closed fist and arm forward to take the boy off his balance. At the same time of the pulling the Uchiha lowered his body sending his elbow forward, twisting his body with the forward blow to the Hyuga's stomach, the punch obviously not breaking the chakra connection but Shinji broke it himself, as the hound disappeared from view as the connected line slowly disappeared. The elbow was aimed right below the boys sternum to avoid causing major damage, but hitting him in the middle of his stomach, the Uchiha remaining calm in his actions, his ponytail flying forward with the movement. He merely used his own actions against the Hyuga, his greyish irises looking into the white eyes of the Hyuga.
