Name: Ren Hyuga
Age: 12 years old
Village: Hidden Leaf Village
Rank/Title: Genin
Clan: Hyuga clan, main branch
Element: Water Release
Skills: Taijutsu Adept, Ninjutsu Novice
Appearance:
Ren has a lean build and is a bit short for his age, standing 4’11. He has medium sized straight brown hair, that he keeps tied on a high pony tail, with two bangs beside his head. When untied they go down to the middle of his back, while the bangs go all the way to his mouth. Like all Hyuga’s his eyes are white and featureless. He is usually wearing his beige hoodie with the Hyuga symbol, dark brown shorts and his shinobi sandals.
Face Claim: Original art.
PGP/Sexuality: He/Straight
About You: Ren is a very polite and considerate boy. He likes to see people happy and is usually quite the helpful individual to those around him. He doesn’t let the fact that he hails from one of the most ancient and important clans from the Hidden Leaf get over his head, and instead would rather see someone’s own value than to judge them by their name and family members. He is always there to offer a helping hand to people in need and he steps up in the face of injustice even if it costs him dearly. He cares for his family and his name, but not more than any regular people would, even though he is part of the main branch of the Hyuga. Ren can be quite the carefree individual whenever he doesn’t have any missions to do, and likes to relax, stare at the clouds, eat some Takoyaki (he is quite the foodie) and play his Ocarina (he is decent playing it, but could be better if he practice more rather than playing just to relax). He has a good sense of humour, but he is more likely to be the one to laugh from the joke rather than the one cracking the joke. He is easy to smile and to forgive, although he rarely forgets.
He is a fiercely loyal friend and he will always put the safety and life of his comrades before his very own, which can make him a bit reckless at times. He is strong-willed when he finally makes a decision and he will not backdown until he either gets things done or his body is not capable of moving anymore (although he will complain about it and want to have some vacations after). He can also be quite blunt as he is known for his honesty, even in regards to what people don’t really want to hear, although he has enough empathy to try and ease the way he addresses people about such things.
The boy also has a sharp brain inside his head, but he is a bit lazy to put it to full use, and will only force himself to be smart as he is if there’s a real need for that. For those who do not know him better, he can be seen as pretty average though; he was never the best in the academy mostly because he saw no point in putting too much effort: they would all become Genin if they passed, so it mattered not if you were number one or twentieth. His goal as a shinobi is to be able to protect his friends, family and loved ones. If he didn’t have to fight to achieve that goal, he would gladly enjoy a more mundane life, but he knows that’s not how the ninja world works and readily accepts his fate.
Ren would rather avoid conflict and use his wits to handle battle rather than direct confrontation, but against all odds, he is most competent when actually faced with direct physical combat as he excels in his Taijutsu. He is a natural at that, and although he could be much better if he put some effort behind training, he is a very focused fighter once he starts. His analytical mind and quick reflexes make him quite the resourceful fighter, which together with his bloodline can make him quite the asset in a team.
Writing Sample: The clouds had a weird shape that morning, it almost felt like they were unsure of what to paint on that beautiful blue canvas they had at their disposal. The boy giggled at that thought as he tried to make sense of one of the clouds, deciding it looked like a mix of a meerkat and a giraffe, only to realise the two animals had little similarities; he hadn’t ever seen either of them in person, so it made him feel a bit silly. He paused his thoughts on the shape of the clouds to take another bite on the delicious and still warm Takoyaki he had on his hand. The taste of the octopus exploded in his mouth and he groaned in satisfaction as he slowly closed his eyes to enjoy the lovely breeze of the wind that touched the hills near the academy. It was such a good and lovely day he wished he could just sleep on that grassy hill until the sun started to set. Now that felt like a dream!
But like all dreams, that one also came to an end; quite the abrupt one, mind you. The shadow in front of his eyes, at first, seem liked just another heavy cloud blocking the sun. ”Ohh? I wonder that shape this one has!” he thought to himself as he slowly opened his eyes, and, to his surprise, it was no cloud that was blocking the sun, but the face of his enraged father, Hirohito Hyuga. He had his arms folded and was breathing so slowly that for a second Ren thought his father was maybe subjected to the infamous Kanashibari no Jutsu, the paralysis one. ”Dad?” he asked with a lazy tone as he got up enough to sit.
”What are you doing here?” the angered man asked. Ren blinked twice and pointed to the clouds with his free hand. ”I was watching the clouds while enjoying my Takoyaki and the breeze. Do you wanna sit beside me and enjoy it with me?” he asked as he cracked an almost innocent smile on his face. His father, however, didn’t seem too keen on the invitation; if anything, it seemed to have ignited his anger even further. ”You should be in the academy! You have class now!” he barked at the boy, who arched his brows just a little, as if he had just been reminded of something that wasn’t very important. ”Oh… That…” he said on a bit of a carefree tone.
”Are you kidding me, boy?! Do you think your behaviour is acceptable?” Hirohito asked with his teeth grit. Ren scratched the side of his head and yawned, which didn’t quite help. ”I honestly got side tracked. But don’t worry, dad… I have a passing mark already on the taijutsu class. I should be fine…” he said, unpreoccupied, but his father wasn’t having any of that anymore. ”Get up right now and head straight to class! I will not tolerate this lack of discipline! You represent our clan! The main branch of the glorious Hyuga clan! You have a name to honour! and even Ren knew that he was now at quite the shaky terrain.
With a mild grimace, he got back up, tapping his pants to get rid of the sticky grass that insisted on tagging along. ”Alright, alright! I will get going. Geez… Sorry.” he said as he started turning around. ”Improve that attitude, Ren! You won’t ever be a decent shinobi if you don’t take it more seriously!” and as he said that, the boy nodded. ”Duly noted, dad! I will try not to embarrass you a lot!” and as he said that he chuckled a bit and started jogging towards the class as his father shook his head and sighed, knowing he truly didn’t care about all he had said.
